David Crowder*Band – Give Us Rest or (a requiem mass in c [the happiest of all keys])

The end has finally come. I had blogged about the David Crowder Band ending their run (READ HERE), and this week, we saw the release of their final album, Give Us Rest or (A Requiem Mass In C [The Happiest of All Keys]). It’s a great closing act. I recommend taking the time to listen to it all at once, I think you’ll like the journey that David and the boys take you on. They will be missed.

Apple to Provide Live Video Streaming of September 1 Event

This may make the live bloggers a little miffed, but apple announced they will live stream their event tomorrow. I love that they made this move.

From their site:
Apple® will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad™. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at www.apple.com.

Great (short!) Youth Ministry Training Podcast

I’ve been involved in a project to provide free Youth Ministry resources online at umyouthpastor.com for a while now. We thought about doing a training podcast for a while, but wanted to make sure that we were adding something worthwhile rather than just creating more work for ourselves. After consuming a lot of podcasts, I realized that what I wanted was a periodic training/idea podcast that was short and to the point. That is where the idea for 10-minute Training (itunes link) began.

Each episode is an interview with a talented youth minister about a specific topic covering everything from having hard conversations to indoor game idea roundups. Every episode then concludes with a resource recommendation from the guest. All in about 10 minutes.

I love and listen to tons of long-format podcasts like the SYM podcast (iTunes link), but know very few people who are both entertaining enough to listen to for that long and experienced/talented enough to have that much quality content (Doug and the gang are some of the few in youth ministry). The point of the podcast is to get you some usable information or idea as quickly as possible, or as the tagline suggests… we get to the point so you get the training. Want to Replace iTunes?

First I want to say. I like iTunes, it syncs content great to my iPhone and Apple TV. I also love the genius feature, it creates great playlists. But when it comes to getting content onto my sons PSP, I’m out of luck. That was until doubleTwist.

DoubleTwist gives you an alternative to iTunes (that can still access you iTunes library). It’s still pretty basic, but it does offer some great features that iTunes lacks.

Sync – it syncs with a lot more devices (including PSP, Blackberrys, Android, Kindle and more). See the complete list here.
Amazon mp3 store. You can directly access the Amazon mp3 and all the free content they offer.
Share with others. It gives an easy way to share with your friends.

It’s still early in development, and I’m sure they will fill out the missing features in time. It’s a great start, and I look forward to future releases. And at FREE, it’s worth a try. Right now it’s only Mac, but a PC version is coming.

Office on the iPhone

I love my iPhone, it’s a great tool. Often times it feels like more than a phone, but a small computer. One thing that has held it back from really being a netbook competitor for me is the lack of document support. Sure you can view certain documents if they have been emailed to you, but just created or accessing document hasn’t been easy. Enter Documents to Go. This great piece of software not only allows you to view and edit word documents sent to you, but you can also create word documents. Support for editing Excel docs is coming soon. Now you can work on all those youth talks on the go.

It comes it two versions one that syncs with Microsoft Exchange and one that doesn’t. If you don’t have an exchange server at the office, or don’t want direct access to your email attachments through exchange go for the cheaper non-exchange version. If you have an exchange server I think it’s worth the extra to get the Exchange integration.

One thing I hope to do on this site is let everyone out now about other sites that I’ve found useful or entertaining. One of those is FreeiTunesDownloads. It is a blog that posts all the free content that’s available on iTunes, it includes the single of the week, but also other songs that they are offering, tv shows, and other videos. Like any collection of free things, you’ll get some good and some bad, but it’s definitely worth watching.
